Meditation: The Key To Allowing And Feeling Better!

If you are like me, there are times when you can’t seem to slow your life down long enough to stay centered for very long. I am doing this or that, running here or there, and taking care of things that need doing. But when I feel like I need to find my center, allow more wellbeing, and connect to Source Energy, there is no quicker and better way than to meditate for 5–10 minutes. Some people think that meditating means burning incense, chanting “Ohm,” and pondering your belly button for hours at a time; but I am talking about a much simpler process that I will outline here. Meditation really can be as simple as sitting quietly, walking deliberately, or breathing rhythmically. If you are new to meditation, try these steps and ass if you feel better in the process:

  1. Sit quietly in a chair or on the floor, and make yourself comfortable in an upright position. If you need to wear comfortable clothes, change into these clothes first. Have an alarm that you can program for 5, 10, or 15 minutes. I like my iPhone for this.
  2. Close your eyes and just start to notice everything around you. What do you hear? What do you smell? Take in information from your senses, but don’t judge any of it. Simple notice things.
  3. Once you are in the moment and noticing things, pick one thing to focus upon. It can be your breathing as you notice it going in and out. It can be a sound in the room, such as a fountain, or wind chime. It can be anything you choose.
  4. Once you start focusing on the sound of your choice, just allow yourself to exist in the moment with the sound. If your mind wanders…and it will…just bring your attention back to the focus of the sound, or your breath. There is nothing else to do. Just go with it.
  5. Stick with the meditation for 5–10 minutes and notice how you feel. You will probably get a flash of intuition, insight, or inspiration at some point. You may get the solution to a problem you have been worried about. You may even feel a renewed sense of purpose for the entire day.
  6. When the alarm goes off, open your eyes and take a few more breaths in and out. Be grateful for the time you spent opening your mind and senses. Feel your wellbeing increase. Notice that you probably feel a little better than when you started.

Meditation is a process that can be tailored to the individual, and there is no right and wrong way to do it. You can think a short mantra (several words that you repeat over and over again), or you can use affirming sentences. Everybody has their favorite methods. No matter how you do it, enjoy the process of convening with yourself with the intention of feeling better. If you do it every day, you will really notice a difference as soon as the first day you do it…and the more you do it the easier it gets.       I don’t focus on my belly button. I focus on the lint that collected inside of my belly button. ; )
      But seriously, I’ve been doing a meditation that I learned when I was in Actualism. Here’s what I do:
      I sit quietly and direct my attention to a central point six inches above the center of the top of my head. I think of a brilliant point of light that exists there. I don’t try to visualize the point of light, I just know it’s there and I allow the experience of it to register throughout my body. Then I think of that little point of light growing and forming into a perfect crystal white star. I allow the star to open to release a downpouring of pure, unobstructed crystal white energy into my head, flooding my brain, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, etc. I then allow this energy to continue throughout my body, both inside and out, washing away, like a shower, all of the stresses, worries and other negative feelings and emotions and thoughts I might be feeling at that moment. When it reaches my hands and fingers, I think of my palms opening up and letting the flow of energy come flooding out of my hands. The same for when it washes down to my feet. I think of the soles of my feet opening up and letting the energy flood through into the earth below. As soon as I have the flow going throughout my entire body, I think of the energy intensifying into an all consuming white fire that burns away anything that is negative, un-supporting of life, or causes disconnectedness to my inner being and thus to source energy. When this happens, I often feel a great weight being flushed out of my body as well as a deep cleansing that accompanies it. When I feel sufficiently “cleansed”, I think of the all consuming aspect of this energy ceasing. Now I think of my hands and feet closing up, and the energy backfills into my entire body. When it reaches the crown of my head, I think of the crown as still being open, so that the energy/light can spill out all around me. Lighting everything in my surroundings.
      I’ve been doing this meditation for about 20 years now. It keeps me centered, focused, and most of all, relaxed.
